Selecting html objects

This is an attempt to highlight a range of text and retrieve the corresponding markup (tags, class/id information, etc). Highlight text anywhere on this page. The sentence spans below have id's associated with them. The selection will be displayed below with it's corresponding formatting, and the ids of the objects that exist both completely and partially within the selection will be listed.

At the moment, it's retrieving id information on just the spans. Eventually, this will work for any object.
